AST™’s "In-home Family Survival Room" is a safe room that can be installed in almost any room you choose (bedrooms are the best) in any existing home, condo or apartment on any floor be it a basement, first or second level.
The installation of the safe room requires no demolition of any kind, as the radiation shielding is simply put over the existing walls with new drywall installed over it.
The ceiling has the shielding put on and a layer of plaster or ceiling texture is added.
The floor if carpeted will have the carpet and pad removed, the shielding put down and the carpet and pad reinstalled.
The door(s) will have the shielding installed on the back, and the window(s) will have bifold shutters that remain behind the drapes until needed.
All electrical outlets, lights switches and any air vents will have shields cut to size and stored until needed.
The air filtration system is a self-contained system and requires a small intake hole (similar to a dryer vent) be cut thru the wall for the air intake hose.
Once these items are installed, new drywall is hung, ceiling re-textured and carpet/pad put back down, the installation is complete and your “In-home Family Survival Room” is now ready for use.
There are no visible signs that the room is a safe room and can be used just as it was before.
