What is a Survival Room?

Safe Rooms have been used by humans since the beginning of time, to protect themselves from the dangers that existed during that period.

The most well known safe rooms started with cavemen using caves, to castles during medieval times built on mountain tops or with water filled moats that completely surrounded them.

Next were the atomic bomb shelters of the 50s and 60s when the danger was an atomic bomb fired by missile from Russia.

Today’s safe rooms are built to offer protection from very specific dangers.

If you live in the mid-west, tornados pose a threat and if you live on the lower east coast or the gulf coast the danger is hurricanes, coupled with tornados as well as storm surges.

Unfortunately since 9-11 the dangers from bad weather (even for those living in the mid-west and coastal areas) are overshadowed by an even greater danger “Terrorism”.

The greatest threat to Americans today, across the nation is a terrorist attack with a dirty bomb (radiation) or bio-chemicals.

Another danger to Americans is the possibility of a terrorist attack or an accidental meltdown at one of the more than 100 Nuclear Power Plants operating here in the U.S.

Residents of a targeted area may not be allowed to travel lest contaminates go with them.

A viable option is to secure your home and rely on a safe room to see you through until the danger has passed.

AST™ has developed an “In Home Family Survival Room” that can be installed in any existing home, condo or apartment on any floor be it a basement, first or second level.

Once the installation is complete (bedrooms are best) the room will look exactly as before and can be used just like it was being used before the install.
