What is a Survival Room?
Radiation Shielding

The radiation shielding used by AST™ in the "In-home Family Survival Room" is the exact same material that is used in the hospital x-ray rooms in the U.S.

There are four types of radiation: Alpha, Beta, Neutrons and Gamma (x-ray and 'Dirty Bomb'). Gamma radiation rays are dangerous because they have great penetrating ability.

The radiation shielding used by AST™ is very effective in the shielding against gamma radiation, thus offering protection from a 'Dirty Bomb'.

Radiation travels in a straight line, so the shielding cannot have any cracks, holes or open seams.

AST™ installs the radiation shielding by overlapping each section on the walls as well as the floor and ceiling, bifold shutters are mounted so when closed they form a completely shielded window.

The electrical outlets, light switches and vents will have shielding covers that are stored until needed.

The door handle, back of door and the hinge area of the door jam will also have shielding.

Once the complete shielding install is done, the room will be completely encased with radiation shielding.
