A suitcase bomb is a very compact and portable nuclear weapon that is housed in a small suitcase with the dimension of approx 24x16x8 inches.
The smallest possible bomb-like object would be a single critical mass of plutonium at maximum density under normal conditions.
The warhead consists of a tube with two pieces of uranium, which when rammed together, would cause a blast ranging from 10 to 20 tons. Some sort of firing unit and device that would need to be decoded to cause detonation would be included in the 'suitcase'.
Due to the size of the suitcase, it is easy to disguise and transport anywhere in the country.
These are concerns that terrorist may have gained control of several suitcase bombs from Russia and that some of these could now be in the U.S.
