AST™ has carefully researched each item before including it as part of the supplies that are being furnished with the safe room.
Items were put into groups as follows:
Food & Water
Food – AST™ has stocked both can goods and pre-packaged ready-to-eat meals that are self-heating for a hot meal once per day. Can opener, utensils, paper plates and cups are also included. Food supply is for 4 adults for 7 days.
Water – each adult requires 1 gallon of water per day. AST™ added a 30-gallon plastic water tank and hand pump. The tank is installed into the bottom drawers of a dresser and is completely out of sight. Top drawers of dresser can continue to be used for clothing etc.
Stored water remains drinkable for 5 to 6 months. AST™ has included water purification tablets in case water has not been replenished in the 5 to 6 months time period when needed.
Lighting
Regular flashlight – comes with 4-D 20 year shelf-life batteries.
Shake flash light – never needs batteries, shake 30 seconds, has light for approximately 30 minutes.
Fluorescent lights – 2 - 30 watt units are supplied, that run off batteries. Plug into battery outlets with attached wiring.
Candles – 2 Large, clean burn (no-wax and low smoke) candles that will burn for 7 days, 24-hours per day. Also included are matches that are waterproof to light the candles.
Sanitation
Chemical toilet – fold out toilet seat, with toilet disposable bags.
Chemicals – gels body waste to control odor and spills.
Toilets wipes – for body cleansing.
Privacy shelter – Provides a complete private enclosure around the toilet.
Health & Safety
Bio-chemical body wash – comes in tablet form and when added to water makes a cleansing agent that kills viruses like anthrax, smallpox etc.
Bio-chemical suit – 4 suits are supplied and will offer protection if a person must exit the safe room. Also has a disposable bag to put suit in after re-entry.
Bio-chemical mask – 4 masks are supplied. These masks fit completely over the head and can be worn with facial hair.
Potassium Iodide – supplied in both tablet and liquid form as a blocking agent to prevent radiation from being absorbed by the thyroid gland.
First Aid Kit – standard kit approved by OSHA.
Instant Ice Pack – chemical ice pack that starts working by twisting the plastic package.
Fire extinguisher – dry chemical for use on both flammable liquids and electrical fires.
Whistle – the sound of a whistle will carry much farther than yelling to alert others if you need help.
Shortwave radio – Never needs batteries, hand crank to use. Use this as a means of getting information from authorities to the conditions outside the safe room before exiting.
Geiger counter – use this to read radiation levels outside the safe room before exiting.
Carbon Dioxide monitor – (CO2) this unit is supplied to monitor the amount of CO2 in the air at all times while secured in the safe room. All readings are in “parts per million” (ppm).
Oxygen monitor – (O2) this unit is supplied to monitor the amount of O2 in the air at all times while secured in the safe room.
All readings are in “percent (%)".
Salt – there is a danger that humans don’t get the correct amount of salt while in a secured shelter for several days. Prevents cramps. Salt added to warm drinking water also makes it taste better.
Vitamin B-12 – the human body depletes vitamin B-12 at 4 times the normal rate when in a very stressful situation.
